Plug Gage A plug gauge is a tool used to measure the dimensions of internal threads and consists of two parts: a through gauge (Go Gauge) and a stop gauge (No Go Gauge).
-Through Gauge: It is used to verify the minimum limit size of the internal thread. If the Go Gauge passes through the entire length of the thread, then the internal thread size is considered to be acceptable.
-Stop Gauge: Used to verify the maximum limit size of the female thread. The stop gauge should only go within 2 pitches of the thread, if it exceeds this distance, the thread size is too large and does not comply with the standard.
Ring Gage: Ring gauge is used to measure the dimensions of external threads and also consists of a through gauge and a stop gauge.
-Through Gauge: It is used to check the maximum limit size of the male thread. If the through gauge does not pass completely through the male thread, then the male thread size is considered to be unacceptable. -Stop Gauge: Used to verify the minimum limit size of the male thread. The stop gauge should be able to pass freely through the thread, but should not pass completely through the entire length of the thread to ensure that the thread size is within the allowable range.
Usage When using plug and ring gauges, the thread surface needs to be cleaned first to avoid oil or impurities affecting the measurement accuracy. Then, align the plug gauge or ring gauge with the thread to be measured and gently rotate it to check whether it can pass freely through the specified distance.
During use, excessive force should be avoided to avoid damaging the gauge or the thread under test.
